Dumpster Baby is an isometric story-based indie game developed in Unity alongside a team of four friends, currently out on itch.io and planned to release on Steam as well. The game is currently in post-production, and is being made over the course of three semesters for our capstone for the Games + Simulation Major at Miami University.
This game is being developed alongside:
The game is heavily story-based, mostly revolving around the LGBTQ+ community and homelessness. You play as a racoon named Bandit and build relationships in an attempt to find roommates for an affordable apartment, while crawling around the environment and digging through dumpsters in search of goodies.
I am one of the programmers for this project alongside Sam Bowsher, and this project has been an extraordinary challenge with interesting problems that have been rewarding to figure out. The team has been in constant communication with each other, which has been incredibly helpful.
For the specifics, while Sam has been in charge of ensuring the dialogue and event systems work flawlessly as the core focus of the game, I've been mostly in charge of the player's movement mechanics as well as menus and certain mechanics with the inventory system such as crafting and giving certain items to NPCs as gifts. Still, we've constantly been helping each other with any problems that arise.
Developing this game has been a fantastic experience, and I couldn't have asked for a better team! I can't wait to continue building on this knowledge throughout any projects I will end up working on in the future!
