This is a 2D rendition of a trap-jaw ant, Odontomachus brunneus, created entirely using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator.
This project was made for a college course in which we were assigned to choose any insect or arachnid and reconstruct them in Adobe Illustrator. The process of creating this ant I've decided to officially name "Gerald" was straight-forward as I only used the Pen tool with different fills and on different layers to construct the shape and the shading, as well as the gradient tool for the background. However, it was still very long-winded due to the sheer number of shapes and colors involved in not only accurately replicating the ant's anatomy, but also my decision to add shading beyond the bare minimum.
Quite honestly, I did more than necessary for this project, but since I had already known how to use Adobe Illustrator and wanted to create a project I'd actually be fine showing to other people I decided to tackle this head-on.
